Customer Comments

You stated that aquarium salt does not effect the pH. This is not true. Aq salt softens water which lowers your pH

I also contacted Aq pharmaceutical They specifically recommend marine salt over Their salt. (Aq Salt)

I also contacted Aq systems makers of marine salt they also suggested 2 oz per gal of water

Thanks
Patrick

Reply. Hello Patrick. You are talking about two types of salt. One is Aquarium Salt, which is almost entirely Sodium Chloride, and the other is Marine Salt, which contains Sodium Chloride plus several other salts.

Contrary to what you wrote, Aquarium Salt will not soften water and will not affect the pH of the water. But Marine Salt will both harden the water and usually increase the pH.

We recommend using Aquarium Salt to treat fish that show Signs of Stress and Disease, but we do not recommend using Marine Salt in freshwater aquariums.

Two oz. of Marine Salt per gallon of water is way too much salt for freshwater fish. I hope my comments help you. I suggest you click here and carefully read the information about Aquarium Salt again.
