No! This is like buying a kitten or a puppy, that will change as it grows and matures.

Click here to read more about our fish.

We stock and ship fish that are the ideal size to ship.

Not so small that they will not do well when shipped.

Yet not so big that they will have trouble adjusting to a new home.

The fish in almost all of our pictures were young fish like the ones we ship that we raised up, and you can too!

Scientific Name
Botia almorhae

Yoyo Loaches are cute, energetic, and hardy. They can be ornery but not too aggressive and will not be bullied by other more aggressive fish. Most loaches are nocturnal, but Yoyo Loaches are not quite so nocturnal as most other loaches.

Yoyo Loaches feel more secure, when they have a pipe or cave to hide in. Click here to learn more about some ideal ornaments for an aquarium with a Yoyo Loach.

The name Yoyo Loach was given to these fish by imaginative people who could read the word Yoyo in the dark markings on the sides of these fish, but not everyone seems to be blessed with enough imagination to see the word Yoyo.

Yoyo Loaches and most other Loaches will eat small snails right out of their shells, and the snails will quickly be eliminated from your aquarium. If you have a snail problem, solving it with a Loach is much safer than putting a poison in your aquarium to kill the snails. Of course, neither the Loaches nor the poison will remove the snail shells from your aquariums. You'll have to remove the snail shells with a small net.

Appropriate Home
A Yoyo Loach is an escape artist so the aquarium must have a cover without escape holes, or this Loach will jump out for sure. If your tank cover has holes, cut pieces of plastic from a plastic milk carton. Be sure the pieces of plastic are clean, then tape them over the holes in your cover.

Even better get an Eclipse Aquarium Hood for your aquarium. The Eclipses leave no holes for your fish to jump through. An aquarium with at least 30-gallons of water, an exterior power filter with a BIO-Wheel, a maximum of 1/4-inch of gravel, and an aquarium heater adjusted to between 78 and 82 degrees F. Click here for more about warm water aquariums.

Cichlid Stones - Ceramic Aquarium Caves - Click on this image to buy Cichlid Stones.
Most Loaches, Eels, and Sharks love Cichlid Stones, which are natural looking ceramic aquarium caves . Click here for more about Cichlid Stones.

Recommended Diet
Floating flake food. Perhaps some sinking food pellets but be careful because uneaten food will soon spoil and pollute the water. Occasionally feed them live or frozen food such as live Black Worms and live or frozen brine shrimp. Click here for more about Black Worms. Click here to read more about feeding fish. Customer Comments

Hi, I'm not sure if you have the time to answer questions such as these, but I thought I'd try nonetheless! I read on your site that one could feed banana pieces to Clown Loaches. Could I do the same for my Yoyo Loach? His antics have made him our favorite fish ....
Thanks :)
Reply. Thank you for your interesting question. As you mentioned, Clown Loaches like to eat pieces of banana. I wish I could answer your question, but I've never tried feeding bananas to my Yoyo Loaches. I recommend you try feeding your Yoyo Loach a small piece of banana. Watch your fish very carefully. If it does not eat the piece of banana within about an hour, then you'd better take the piece of banana out. Please send me a note and tell me what you find out!

Shown above is a series of pictures of the same young Yoyo Loach that measures about 1.5" long. As you can see, it has very dark markings for now, and it loves to explore inside the Ceramic Driftwood Logs. Click here for more about these logs.

Yoyo Loaches enjoy each others company and will often be found together under the same rock or in the same cave. So plan to keep at least three together in the same aquarium. A group with at least six Yoyo Loaches is even better. Good tank mates for Yoyo Loaches: a group of at least six Clown Loaches, all kinds of Gouramis, one Redtail Shark or one Rainbow Shark, all Barbs, all Danios, and all Rainbows.
Click here to read about several groups of compatible fish.

Size and Lifespan
Yoyo Loaches rarely grow larger than 6" in an aquarium and can live for many years.
