Our Pictures

This website has lots of pictures of the fish that we offer for sale. Will the fish you get look like the fish in our pictures? No! This is like buying a kitten or a puppy, that will change as it grows and matures.

Click here to read more about our fish.

We stock and ship fish that are the ideal size to ship. Not so small that they will not do well when shipped. Yet not so big that they will have trouble adjusting to a new home.

The fish in almost all of our pictures were young fish like the ones we ship that we raised up, and you can too!

If you're interested in buying an item that's marked "Out of Stock", we recommend that you add this page to your favorites or bookmarks and check back on this page from time to time.

We usually do not get advance notice, so we can't supply you with any more information, and it will do no good to email us and ask us, when we'll have it back in stock.

Comments
Silver Dollars are relatives of the Piranha. But Silver Dollars are mainly vegetarians that will adapt to eat almost anything. Six or more Silver Dollars make a beautiful school in a large aquarium.

Appropriate Home
Silver Dollars will soon need an aquarium with at least 50-gallons of water, an exterior power filter with a BIO-Wheel, a maximum of 1/4-inch of gravel, and an aquarium heater adjusted to keep the water between 78 and 82 degrees F.

Later as they grow bigger they will need a bigger aquarium. The Red Hook Silver Dollar will eventually need a much bigger and deeper aquarium as it grows to be 10" long. Click here for more about warm water aquariums.

Recommended Diet
Silver Dollars are vegetarians that will do well on floating flake food, when they are small. Later feed them a pellet food. Click here for more about feeding fish. Silver Dollars are said to eat only vegetation in their natural habitats, so it's fun to feed them some, oh say, watermelon. ;^ }

Compatibility
Silver Dollars are schooling fish and should be kept in a group with at least six Silver Dollars. Silver Dollars are good tank mates for Angels that are about the same size as the Silver Dollars. Swordtails and Mollies. Also White Tip Shark Cats, Plecostomus Catfish, and Pictus Catfish are also good tank mates for Silver Dollars.

Silver Dollars are often seen in aquariums with Gouramis, Giant Danios, Rainbows, a group of Bala Sharks, and a group of Clown Loaches. Large Silver Dollars are sometimes seen in large aquariums with Neotropical Cichlids such as Jack Dempseys, Firemouths, and even Oscars. But of course the Silver Dollars must be large and swim very fast to stay away from the aggressive cichlids.

Click here to read about several groups of compatible fish.
