These mini-catfish are very compatible with small Tetras, and they're very good aquarium fish. Of course these mini-catfish are much bigger than small Tetras, even so Ghost Catfish don't bother smaller fish. Also these catfish swim up off the bottom of the aquarium, which makes them even more interesting to watch.

Ghost Catfish love to eat premium foods.

Our Pictures

This website has lots of pictures of the fish that we offer for sale. Will the fish you get look like the fish in our pictures? No! This is like buying a kitten or a puppy, that will change as it grows and matures.

Click here to read more about our fish.

We stock and ship fish that are the ideal size to ship. Not so small that they will not do well when shipped. Yet not so big that they will have trouble adjusting to a new home.

The fish in almost all of our pictures were young fish like the ones we ship that we raised up, and you can too!

Out of Stock
If you're interested in buying an item that's marked "Out of Stock", we recommend that you add this page to your favorites or bookmarks and check back on this page from time to time.

We usually do not get advance notice, so we can't supply you with any more information, and it will do no good to email us and ask us, when we'll have it back in stock.

Comments: This is a Premium Pet Fish, and we never see Premium Fish like this in any of the live fish stores or the online stores that we visit. Premium Pet Fish are more energetic, hardier, and have brighter colors with a beautiful metallic sheen. Click  here to learn more about Premium Pet Fish.

Origin: This Catfish is a wild fish that was caught in Thailand.

Maximum Size: This Catfish can grow to be 4" long, including their tails.

Behaviors: These Catfish are moderately active swimmers and are not aggressive.

Compatibility: Some recommended tank mates include small Rasboras, Honey Gouramis, Hillstream Loaches, White Clouds, and other small mild tempered fish. Click here to read more about compatible groups of pet fish.

Temperature: They live well from about 78 to 82 degrees F., but they're probably most comfortable at about 78 degrees F. Click here to learn about aquarium temperature, aquarium thermometers, and aquarium heaters.

Feeding: Premium Fish Food Flakes when very small and small Premium Pellet Food when larger. Click here to learn more about and shop online for premium fish foods.

Water Conditions: This Catfish seems to be tolerant of a wide range of water conditions. Probably a pH of about 6.5 with moderate hardness is best. Most water in the US has a higher pH and is hard but seems to be OK, so it's probably best NOT to adjust the pH or the hardness of the water. Here in our facilities the water is hard and the pH is usually about 7.8. We ship them in this water. Click here for a lot more information about aquarium water conditions.

Aquarium Size: It is probably best to house these fish in at least a 30-gallon aquarium, but of course bigger is better.

Decor: These Catfish do not need gravel, and a layer of gravel more than 1/4" thick will usually fill with bits of uneaten food that will contaminate the water. Click here for more about aquarium gravel. Pieces of aquarium-safe driftwood are also nice.

Live Plants are beautiful and improve the water quality. Ghost Catfish seem to enjoy plants.

Aquarium Filter: Bio-Wheel Filters are highly recommended. A Penguin 350B in an aquarium with 20 to 40-gallons of water is OK. Click here to learn more about aquarium filters.

The addition of Lava Rocks will keep nitrates in the ideal range. Click here to learn more about using Lava Rocks in aquariums.

Life Span: These Catfish can live for several years, probably many years provided they are fed premium food and kept in an aquarium with very good water.

Gender: As they mature females presumably become plumper than males.

Breeding: These Catfish have been reported to be successfully bred in the aquarium hobby, but it is very uncommon.

Popularity: This Catfish is common and very popular.

Names: The scientific name is Kryptopterus bicirrhis.

Variations: There are no variations of this species that are known to us.

We hope you've enjoyed reading these comments.
