Live Aquatic Plants
The picture just above shows a beautiful Cryptocoryne plant. Live plants greatly increase the beauty of aquariums and naturally help improve the water quality. We strongly recommend plants in pots, so their roots are not bruised, when the plants are moved.

Archer Fish at AquariumFish.net

15 April 2015
Archer Fish
Archers Fish are absolutely amazing!! You see, they have this magic trick, using their mouths as a squirt gun to shoot down insects! There are several closely related species of Archers, and they all do it.

They're also all brackish water fish; so you'll need to know what that means! They will also eat small fish that fit into their large mouths. So you definitely need to know a few things about Archers, before you get one for your aquarium.

By the way ours eat premium flake and pellet foods and grow fast to a maximum of about 5" long. They energetically swim most of the time, keeping an eye out for insects above the water. We like ours a lot.

Angelicus Loach

15 April 2015
Angelicus Botia
This is not yet a popular aquarium fish, but it should be! Because it has a striking pattern, plus it's very hardy, very energetic, and constantly scourers the bottom of the aquarium for uneaten bits of food, which is very important.

It grows to a maximum of about 3.5", which is a very nice size for most aquariums. It defends itself well but usually doesn't bother other fish. This is a very good aquarium fish that's highly recommended. Oh, what's it eat? Like most of our fish we feed it premium flakes and pellets.

Male Red Zebra

13 April 2015
Male Red Zebra
This fish was born in one of DrTom's big aquariums, where it hid among the rocks, when it was small.

One day Nevin saw it, when it was about 1" long, and said, "It's not really red. It's more like persimmon orange." DrTom smiled and decided to name it Little Percy.

But this little fish grew very fast, eating lots of premium flakes then premium pellet food, and soon DrTom could see he was a male.

Percy grew to be about 4" long, and one day he came out from among the rocks to challenge a much bigger male fish, who ruled the entire aquarium.

That afternoon the two males clashed in a ferocious fight, whirling about each other in tight circles. The fight lasted more than 2-hours, and in the end Percy was victorious. DrTom saw it all, and decided to rename him Sir Percival the Brave, the new ruler.

It was a very exciting slice of the way life is for these fish in Lake Malawi. We all hope you carefully watch your fish and enjoy them as much as DrTom enjoys his.

Black Moor Goldfish

13 April 2015
Black Moor Goldfish
No one can honestly say that this is a colorful fish, but somehow a Black Moor makes all the other Goldfish seem more colorful, so a Black Moor adds greatly to a Goldfish Aquarium.

The one in the picture just above is rather long and slim, but other Black Moors are sort and stubby. They vary just like people. No offense meant.  ;^ }

Tiger Oscar

13 April 2015
Tiger Red Oscar
This is a controversial aquarium fish. Why? Because they grow very fast and soon need a very large aquarium. How large? Eventually one Oscar can grow to need a 150-gallon aquarium or even bigger!

So buying an Oscar is not a casual decision. It should live for many years in a very large aquarium and deserves a dedicated owner! But people, who have one, love it as much as any other pet.

Like all of our fish we sell only premium quality Oscars and recommend feeding them only premium quality fish foods.

Sunset Cichlid male about 4" long

12 April 2015
Sunset Cichlid
A long-long time ago, when DrTom and Nevin Bailey were kids, they kept and loved some Sunset Cichlids.

The Brothers were always asking lots of questions, and when they asked about the name of this fish, their favorite old-timer, Frank Dayes, said to just look at the colors and the horizontal line.

Nowadays this Cichlid is often called the Nicaragua Cichlid
, but the Bailey Bros. can still hear Frank's explanation. So we call this fish the Sunset Cichlid. Whatever the name this is a gorgeous Cichlid that's less aggressive than most Cichlids and very hardy.

The one in the picture is a mature male about 5" long and showing his full colors. The ones for sale now are 2" to 2.5" long and show no colors. Feed them premium food then watch them grow fast and develop wonderful colors. This is a highly recommended aquarium fish.

Zebra Spiny Eel

12 April 2015
Zebra Spiny Eel
Here's one of the nicest aquarium eels. Very inquisitive and so very fun to watch poking around your aquarium.

Professors of ichthyology and other kinds of fish experts get very disappointed, when we call these fish eels and tell us they're not really eels.

But they look like eels. It's fun to call them eels and even more fun to watch the expression on the faces of the fish experts, when we call them eels.

Yellow Leleupi

11 April 2015
Yellow Leleupi
This fish's ancestors lived among the rocks in Lake Tanganyika in east Africa, but this fish was raised by a very famous fish breeder.

We have lots of them in our aquariums now. They're about 1.5" to 2" long, which is the ideal size to ship.

They grow very slowly, unless they're fed premium food a couple of times a day, and then they'll grow fast with much better color like you see in the picture just above.

Coral Blue Hifin Platy

10 April 2015
Coral Blue Hifin Platy
There are many-many color variations of Aquarium Platys, and Coral Blue Hifins, like the young male shown just above, are one of the very nicest.

The word Hifin in Platys and Swords refers to the Higher than usual dorsal fin on top of these fish. By the way these Platys also have the so-called Mickey Mouse mark on the base of their tails.

All of our Platys are premium aquarium fish, which means they're more colorful with a glossy sheen, more energetic, and so excellent aquarium fish. We feed our Platys premium flake and pellet foods.

Fire Eel

09 April 2015
Fire Eel
Considered by many aquarists to be the most beautiful of all freshwater aquarium eels. They seem to get blacker and redder, as they get older.

Often seen at 24" long and sometimes as big as 36" inches when raised in ideal conditions. So eventually this Fire Eel will need a large aquarium.

Not really related to true eels, rather this is an elongated fish that looks like an eel. It's also a predator that eats fish, shrimps, and worms that fit into its mouth.

But to our surprise ours will eat premium pellet food. Probably best to also feed them some small fish, shrimps, and worms.

Redeye Red Swordtail Female

RedEye Red Swordtail Male

08 April 2015
Red Eye Red Swords
Long-long ago, back in the late 1960s and early 1970s DrTom raised Swordtails in his parent's basement and backyard. He hired his younger brother Nevin to help, and eventually they became partners.

Their Swordtails were widely acclaimed as the best anyone had ever seen! In fact their Swords looked like the ones just above, but without the red eyes. These are the first Swordtails that DrTom has seen in some 40-years that were as good as his!

So they are really-really nice and big with lots of energy and really awesome red color. The males have big swords like you see in the picture above.

We buy and sell many thousands of fish each week, and we like to occasionally pick out a nice one and raise it up in our own aquariums, like we are doing with this fish, which was great when we got it and is getting better all the time.

This is a wonderful aquarium fish. Very hardy, brightly colored, very active, grows to about 3", and is not a trouble maker!

We can ship some that look like the fish in the top picture, and you can raise them up to look like the fish in the lower picture !!

Dwarf Gourami

07 April 2015
Dwarf Gourami
This is a long time favorite aquarium fish for many reasons. It grows to be a maximum of 3.5" long, which is a nice size for many aquariums. Males, like the one shown above, are very colorful, and this species is rather easy to breed, which can be fun!

Fish farmers also produce a solid red variety and a sold blue variety, and both of those varieties are very beautiful too. This species does very well on premium fish food.

Siamese Algae Eater

06 April 2015
Algae Eaters
The fish shown above is called a Siamese Algae Eater, and it's a wonderful aquarium fish that eats lots of algae. There's another fish called the Chinese Algae Eater that doesn't eat much algae and is not a good aquarium fish.

Just a few years ago this fish was very rare in aquariums, then our guys, here at AquariumFish.net, really figured out how to ship them safely, and now it's not so rare in aquariums.

Besides eating lots of algae this species loves to eat premium fish food flakes and pellets.  ;^}

Ghost Shrimp

06 April 2015
Ghost Shrimp
Do these Shrimps look kind of ghostly? Not to us. We think they're cute as a bugs ear! But they're small, measuring about 1"; so it's nice to have an inexpensive magnifying glass to watch a Ghost Shrimp, using all four of its arm-like appendages to pick tiny bits of food off the bottom of the aquarium and put those bits into its mouth. In this way Ghost Shrimp help keep the aquarium clean and the water fresh. We love our Ghost Shrimp and highly recommend them. Plus they're very inexpensive.

 Customer Comments
holy smokes! FedEx was just here ... you sent me an extra fish! :D they are gorgeous! floating them now I can't wait to see them in the tank, thank you!!

Yeah I am most impressed with the level of service from you guys, I will definitely buy from you again! After reading the included acclimation guide I did as you suggest, drain some water and then just add them to the tank, I use aquarium salt already and changed the water just a couple days ago so that should be all good. Everyone is getting along nicely, I have 2 zebra danios, 6 rummy nose tetras, Vinni the pleco, and Blanche the undead Angelfish, they are a little miffed that the lights are out but everybody is getting along great :)

Right out of the box they looked like silver minnows, but after about 5 minutes in the tank their stripe popped out and man don't they look fantastic!

thanks again!

Corydoras Catfish

05 April 2015
Corydoras Catfish
Corydoras is a very large genus of Dwarf Catfish that live in the Amazon Rainforest. They're all wonderful aquarium fish.

Even if you're not quite sure which one is living in your aquarium like DrTom, who is not quite sure what species this is. But whatever the name it's a wonderful aquarium fish.

Wonderful? Here's what DrTom likes about it. Seems to be about full grown now at about 1.75" or so, and that's really a nice size fish for many aquariums.

Corys are not aggressive, but have spiny fins so other fish do not usually bother Corys. As you can see it's very attractive, and it's  hardy, energetic, and easy to feed premium flake and pellet foods.

Asian Bumblebee Catfish

01 January 2015
Asian Bumblebee Catfish
This is a very pretty aquarium catfish, which is caught wild in Asia and is not produced by fish farmers.

It prefers water with a pH slightly below 7.0 and low to moderate hardness, which are both lower than most of the water in North America.

But this catfish can tolerate harder water with a higher pH, and so most aquarists do more harm than good trying to adjust their water chemistry.

An Asian Bumblebee Catfish will swallow any fish that fits into its mouth. So tankmates must be large enough not to be eaten.

This species will fight with catfish that look similar but is peaceful with other fish. So we recommend keeping just one Bumblebee Cat, unless the bottom area of the aquarium is at least 72" by 16".

Asian Bumblebee Catfish love eating premium pellet food and can grow quickly to be about 6" long, when well fed in an aquarium with good water.

Clown Loach

01 April 2015
Clown Loaches
It's a great year for Clown Loaches. The tiny newly hatch larvae are diverted from flowing streams and collected in large ponds, where they hatch and grow without harming the environment.

This years catch has been exceptionally good and the prices are great. Why? Wild environments vary from year to year. Every once in while it's very good for a particular species. Right now it's great for Clown Loaches.

Here's one of DrTom's fabulous young Bala Sharks, swimming in one of his three 80-gallon aquariums.

Balas are constantly swimming torpedoes that never seems to cause trouble but can swim very fast to avoid trouble.

GloFish Tetras

31 March 2015
GloFish Tetras - NEW*
These fish are Skirt Tetras, which have been a very popular, very hardy, very active aquarium fish that didn't have much color, until scientists spliced genes from a jellyfish into this fish's DNA!

The genes from the jellyfish produce a bright fluorescent glow on these fish, as you can see in the pictures.

Some aquarium hobbyists think this is a terrible thing to do, and we respect their feelings. On the other hand some aquarists love them and want GloFish in their aquariums.

Reputable scientists have pretty much agreed that these fish do not endanger the environment. Our decision is to try our best to explain the facts, and then let our customers decide what fish they want in their aquariums.

A long-long time favorite aquarium fish and a very-very good aquarium fish.

Male Red Betta Fish

30 March 2015
DrTom's Red Betta
This picture was taken by DrTom of a Male Red Betta Fish that seems to have some, what would you say? Curls along the edges of his fins.

Just like people, no two Betta Fish are quite the same, and if you look carefully at your Betta, you'll see some differences. This male also has a dark face but not so dark as some males, just darker than his body, which is a dazzling light red.

Green Cobra Guppy
Our fish buyer made a special trip to look for new fish and found these Guppies. We've got a lot of them now, and they're our current favorite Guppy. The cobra pattern on their bodies is the best we've ever seen.

We're wondering if they should be called Gold Cobras, but whatever the name, you can see they're beautiful. They're also very healthy and energetic, which is important to us.

Serpae Tetra

Serpae Tetra
This beautiful red fish was swimming in front of a big rock that by coincidence was almost the same color. Our DrTom snapped this picture and wondered if it was good to have the same color background?

Notice that the black marks and white trim still make this fish stand out from the background.

Whatever the color of the ornaments in your aquarium this is a very beautiful fish. It's also hardy, active, and inexpensive.

Coral Red Guppy Male

28 March 2015
Coral Red Guppy
We've been thinking about Fancy Guppy males for a long-long time. Too often their long tails hang down, and they swim with a wobble. We prefer this new type of male that has a very beautiful tail with lots of color and a more natural size.

Also these males have a thicker caudal peduncle, which is the part of the body that attaches to the tail. A broader caudal peduncle holds and spreads the tail wider. These males swim amazingly fast, which is more fun to watch.

You know we're fishheads here and love our fish. These Male Guppies are an example of the kind of fish we love to keep and care for.

Corydoras Catfish

28 March 2015
Sterbai Cory Catfish
This fish's scientific name is Corydoras sterbai. So aquarists call them Sterbai Cory Catfish. There are many species of Corys and all are dwarf catfish that grow to be at most 3" long, an ideal size for most aquariums.

Almost all Corys have interesting markings, and they're energetic most of time, but every once in a while they stop to take a nap! They also regularly go to the surface to get a gulp of air.  They're lots of fun to watch. We have several Cory species right now.

Gold Tiger Barbs

27 March 2015
Gold Tiger Barbs
Playful, happy, entertaining and so DrTom had lots of fun raising up these Gold Tiger Barbs. They played together all the time, staying within a few inches of each other.

If one of them strayed a couple of inches, it soon got the heebie jeebies and quickly returned to the group.

It's also important to realize that these are young fish that are the perfect size to ship and to raise up. But they are not yet in full color, which as premium fish they have the potential to attain.

They'd love to come and play in your aquarium. ;^ }

Metallic Blue Wag Platy
There are many-many color variations of Aquarium Platys, and Metallic Blue Wags, like the young male shown just above, are one of the very nicest.

The word Wag in Platys and Swordtails is an abbreviation for Wagtail, which means the tail is black. Most folks prefer black tails to the more common clear tails, because black tails are easier to see wagging back and forth.

All of our Platys are premium aquarium fish, which means they're more colorful with a glossy sheen, more energetic, and so excellent aquarium fish. We feed our Platys premium flake and pellet foods.

Live Plants & Cardinals
Here's an aquarium full of Live Plants and a few Cardinal Tetras, which makes a beautiful combination.

Right now and almost always we have lots of so-called tank-raised Cardinal Tetras. Tank-raised means they've been raised by very skillful fish farmers and not collected in the Amazon Rainforests, where their ancestors lived.

Right now we also have several premium plants, such as Wisteria, Sword Plants, Crypts, Java Ferns, and Anubias, which are all very hardy and very beautiful aquarium plants.

Our plants are premium plants, as you can see in the picture, just like our fish are premium fish, which you can just barely see in this picture.

Royal Blue Danio
The Royal Blue Danio is often referred to as "Blue Trout", because of the way it behaves in the wild. They prefer a heavy current, and plenty of swimming room.

It's amazing to watch these fish eat, they will jump to the surface and then dive right back down! And because they are so fast, their shiny scales glimmer as they race through the water.

Truly a beautiful fish!
